Ghana midfielder Afriyie Acquah is delighted over his return to Italy to revive his career after a brief spell in the German Bundesliga turned out to be a disaster.
The former Parma powerhouse midfielder believes Hoffenheim coach Markus Gidsol did not include him in his plans even though they signed him in January from the Italian club.
Acquah moved to the Bundesliga from Italian side Parma in January this year but he did not see enough playing time which resulted in his decision to return to Italy to get some playing time.
“I was playing regularly for Parma back in Italy and then, Hoffenheim stepped in to bring me to Germany but things have not turned out as well as I would have liked,” Acquah told Citi FM.
But Acquah, who scored on his Ghana debut in a 1-0 win over Malawi in Afcon 2013 qualifying last October, says he understands that these things happen in the game.
“I met a new coach and since every coach already has certain players he would want to work with, I did not play much. However these things happen in football so I can understand,” Acquah explained.
In recent months, though, several media reports have stated that the former Parma player was looking to return to Italy to revive his career.
Newly-promoted side Sassuolo and his former side Parma are said to be the clubs willing to give Acquah an escape route back to the Italian Serie A.
Acquah confirmed these reports and was very pleased with such possibilities.
“I think going back to Italy would good for me. I played there for five years and so, I understand the terrain better and I would be used to everything,” he told Citi FM in Accra.
