Insurance Companies Should Take Advantage Of Rampant Fire Outbreaks

A Director of Communication for the People’s National Convention (PNC), Henry Haruna Asante, has charged Insurance companies to educate traders in the country on safety measures at the marketplaces.

There have been close to seven market fire outbreaks in the country this year with the recent one being the Kumasi Central Market which was razed down early dawn on Sunday.

The fire which begun at about 2am at the Second-hand clothing sellers’ area spread to areas like “18” where provisions and cooking utensils were sold.

Several traders, for weeks now, have been thrown into a state of shock as they watched their assets running into millions of Ghana cedis razed by fire.

Commenting on the issue of the rampant market fire outbreaks, the PNC Communicator speaking on Peace FM on Monday called on Insurance companies to utilize the opportunity that has presented itself to educate the traders on the need to insure their goods and property so as not to become derelict in the event of any such unfortunate incidents.

To him, this should be “an advantage for them. They should start educating the people for them to gain understanding that insurance is not only for vehicle but it will as well help every trade.”

He also implored city authorities as well as the traders to fix extinguishers at the various markets to help mitigate the impact of these market fires.
