President Sets Up GHC 2m Fund For Fire Victims

President John Mahama has directed that a GH¢2 million fund be established to assist victims of the recent market fires in Accra.

The establishment of the fund, intended to help provide some relief for the fire victims, forms part of measures the President promised during his visit to the Makola No.2 market last Thursday.

The Chief of Staff, Ministers responsible for Finance, Gender Children and Social Protection, Local Government and Rural Development and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly have been tasked by the President to coordinate and provide the necessary support within their respective areas of competency to ensure effective implementation of the decision.

The Minister for Finance will be working with the Chief of Staff to ensure the provision of the funds and monitor the implementation of the decision. The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, working with the relevant agencies will register all victims to access the extent of their damage especially the effect on individual victims and ensure that only deserving of assistance are catered for under the fund.

President Mahama has directed an expeditious implementation of the decision to enable the victims feel the positive impact of the assistance during their moment of difficulty.
