President Rawlins Is Not A ‘Saint’; He Is The Cause Of Ghana’s Setback and Reversal – Alhaji Bature

Alhaji Iddrisu Bature, managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, has blamed former president Jerry Rawlings for the setbacks and reversals Ghana has experienced to his bad leadership during his 19-year rule.

According to him, though he admires the former president, his utterances sometimes are very hard to accept.

“One of the reasons why I admire Rawlings and will continue to admire him is that, he never looted state property. Though people may raise issues about his family disbursing state funds, Rawlings never did. Nobody can bring a charge that President Rawlings misappropriated state resources,” he said.

Speaking on Asempa FM, the political analyst opined that though President Rawlings never disbursed state funds, he cannot describe him as a ‘saint’

Nonetheless, Alhaji Bature was shocked to have heard the former president claiming Ghana is retrogressing after his era.

According to him not only Ghana is in such a situation but the world at large is deteriorating.
“He (Rawlings) talked about since he left the scene the country is retrogressing. That is not true. The world is moving backwards. Rawlings always wants others to see that his tenure in office was the best ever to happen, which can never be true. He contributed his part.

“…the problems we are facing in Ghana today is the foundation Rawlings laid for this country. All the economic problems can be traced to the foundation Rawlings laid for us,” he lamented.

Ghana’s biggest challenge, corruption, according to Alhaji Bature started in former president Rawlings era to the point that he had to beg the Queen of England to help Ghana fight corruption.
