WOMEN SECURITY officers in the Ashanti Regional capital yesterday marked the May Day celebration with a procession through the principal streets of Kumasi.

The procession took off from the Ashanti Regional Police headquarters through the Central Market area, Roman Hill, Asafo Interchange and the Central Business District of the metropolis amidst musical display and dance by the security officers.

Participants were drawn from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Immigration Service, Prisons Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.

The Police Ladies Association, which organized the procession, said the event was to help foster peace and unity among the security agents in the city, particularly the women.

Its Central Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Deborah Addisson Campbell noted that women in uniform served as real models for their civilian counterparts, and therefore needed to showcase the “unity in diversity” accolade for emulation.

“We are embarking on this joint walk to send signal to the public that we are partners collaborating to ensure peace, social protection and security for our country.

All of us, coming from different security institutions, have a common goal,” she stated.

Senior Prisons Service officer, DSP Beatrice Otchere, expressed her delight for the event, asserting that there should be oneness and togetherness among security agents for the betterment of society.

In her view, such collaboration of sharing ideas and working in concert has the propensity to build confidence and unity of purpose.

She indicated that the joint event would not be a nine-day wonder as they were committed to let it continue.
