Fodome donates land for university of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

The chiefs and people of Fodome Traditional Area in the Hohoe Municipality have donated 916 acres for the establishment of a campus for the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS).

The gesture was in fulfilment of the proposal to establish a campus of the university in the Hohoe Municipality with the view to extending tertiary education to the doorsteps of the people.

The paramount chief of Fodome Traditional Area, Togbega Gbedegbleme Honu III, announced this when the interim council members of the university led by their chairman, Professor Kofi Anyidoho, paid a courtesy call on him at Fodome.

He said two eminent sons of the area, Dr Ken Ahorsu of the University of Ghana and Mr Fabian Kwame Kwamuar of the Arts Council of Ghana, had been appointed by the traditional area as the representatives of the people and as key members of the local committee to act for the implementation and utilisation of the land.

Togbe Honu said education had been the quickest and safest way to alleviate poverty and therefore expressed gratitude to the government for establishing the university in the area.

He appealed to the university council to grant a quota of 10 per cent of the annual admission of the university to citizens of Fodome Traditional Area.

For his part, Prof. Anyidoho thanked the paramount chief and the people of Fodome for their support and disclosed that funds had been secured to start the construction of some buildings next September.

Other members of the delegation were Togbega Tepre Hodo IV, Miss Agnes Dordzie, Dr Sodza Tetteh, Professor Fred Binkah, Professor Edwin Wiredu, Mr Kofi Fiabi-Mensah and Ben Beke.
