We Are Unaware Of AMA’s Directive – Kantamanto Traders Cry

The spokesperson for the Street Hawkers and Vendors Association at the Kantamanto market has stated that its members are unaware of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s directive to move to other markets.

“We appreciate the move by the AMA to put up a modern market but, for the mean time the traders need to be talked to. So that they would know where to move to” he said.

Affected traders who had their properties razed down by fire have threatened to sleep at the market until there is a directive from the government on what has to be done for them.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eye witness News news program Mr. Kakra stated that the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) must address the concerns of the affected traders by making them aware of where they should relocate.

According to him, although they appreciate the AMA’s effort in building a market for the affected trades, a consensus needs to be reached.

“If the AMA wants to put up a modern market, we the leaders and every single member of the association appreciates it, but it should be in the form of consensus” he stated.

He explained that traders pay taxes to the AMA and so they should be a part of the decision making process.

The Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) has announced that it will rebuild the Katamanto market into a modern market prevent future occurrences.
