Deputy Chairman Human Rights Committee, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has condemned in strong terms the loathing and physical assault of Oba Lateef Adeniran Akanni the Olofin of Ado Odo, Ota, Ogun State by his subjects.

The federal parliamentarian representing Ife Federal Constituency affirmed that it was a sheer desecration of traditional institution and abuse of human rights even as he called for immediate and remote cause of the shameful act and advised that anyone found culpable must be made to face the full weight of the law.

This reaction was contained in a letter Hon Makinde addressed to the Executive Secretary Human Rights Commission, it reads in parts:

”This act to us is sheer lawlessness and desecration of traditional institution. Unfortunately this barbaric, inhuman, immoral and callous act took place in Yoruba land, where high premium are placed on traditional institutions.

…In my capacity as the Deputy Chairman Human Rights Committee, I urge this respectable Commission to use its weight to investigate this matter and ascertain the facts behind it, and the roles of the Police and other security operatives must be followed to the letter for possible prosecution of the culprits who are still at loose.

…The Laws of our federation are not paper tiger, they can bark and as well bite, these same laws do not give room for jungle justice. It is totally condemnable to see a monarch publicly beaten, stripped naked and his palace razed by arsonists.” Makinde stated.
