Minister of Health visits KATH

Sherry Ayittey, Health MinisterSherry Ayittey, Health MinisterThe Minister of Health, Ms Shirley Ayitey, has paid a familiarisation visit to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to assess the problems confronting healthcare delivery at the hospital. According to the minister, her visit was also to acquaint herself with plans put in place by the management of the hospital to cope with the the unavailability of medical doctors as a result of their strike.

The minister, accompanied by Madam Salimata Abdul Salam, Chief Director of the ministry, was conducted round the wards and facilities of the hospital by Prof. Ohene Adjei, Chief Executive of the hospital.

Speaking to the media, Ms Ayitey said the government appreciated the hard work of the hospital staff to offer quality service, not only to the people in the region, but to other regions and neighbouring countries.     

She said the government believed in private partnership for national development and, therefore, had opened up to private partners for the immediate completion of the maternity block to reduce congestion and to enhance the effective healthcare service at the hospital.
