Kofi Annan Appeals For An End To Doctors’ Strike

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has appealed for an end to the current impasse between government and striking medical doctors.

The University of Ghana chancellor is urging for negotiations to resume immediately with both parties maintaining some level of trust and mutual respect.

Mr. Annan said when both parties go to the negotiation tables without open mind, achieving results will be difficult.

He made the remarks today when he paid a courtesy call on President John Mahama at the flagstaff house on Tuesday.

Mr. Annan said “Whatever it is, can be discussed and I hope all will remain open minded and come to the table for discussions and find a way out of the stalemate that is facing all of us.”

He also told the media after his meeting with the president that his visit was to discuss pertinent issues regarding the development of the country with the president.

He said “we discussed development issues, questions on how he gets the economy going and all the efforts that he is making to press ahead with the economic development of the country.”
