20 illegal cocaine joints destroyed in Ijaw settlements

WARRI- OVER 20 illegal cocaine joints at Olabrakopre, Ogbokone and other Ijaw settlements in Warri, Delta state were set ablaze, weekend,  by a local task force of the bursting Meinbutus community.

Hard drugs estimated at millions of naira were destroyed by the task force, which also raided Kemekedoumene, Egbemene, NPA,  Macava,  and other settlements.

Chairman of the task force, Comrade Amakiye Ekaye, who confirmed the destruction said the raid as a result of the determined bid of the people to rid the area of criminals and harmful drug peddlers.

He, however, said no arrest was made as the dealers fled their joints before the arrival of the task force, while the fleeing suspects had been placed on surveillance.

Ekaye said harmful drugs sold by the dealers had turned thousands of youths in the areas to wayward children and made many insane, hence the decision to exterminate the illicit business.

His words, “Many of the hard drug addicts also went into stealing after exhausting their money on the hard drugs.”

The group sought the cooperation of security agents to sustain the trend and to extend the operation to other Ijaw and non-Ijaw communities in the state to check the spate of crime.

Eyewitnesses commended the task force for the brilliant stride to  rid the settlements of  crime  and urged security agents to join forces with the group to wipe out criminality in the Ijaw towns.
