Contract Catches World Attention

The combined directing skill of Shirley Frimpong-Manso and the enormous acting talent of Yvonne Okoro have earned their recently released film, Contract, good reviews and award nominations on various international platforms.

The film has been highly commended in Canada by actress, Tonya Lee Williams who is also the Founder of the Reel World Festival that is scheduled to open in Toronto on April 10 and run till the 14th.

Tonya is quoted on City News, Toronto website, describing Contract as “amazing film from Ghana”, adding that the Ghanaian movie will open the festival come April 10.

According to Tonya, the five-day fiesta will be closed with a film from Bollywood, India.

She said diversity is what the festival is all about, for which reason there will be films from Nigeria, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, United States, China etc.

The event is designed to reflect what the real world is about and will therefore feature music videos, documentaries and other productions.

“Movies are of two parts – production value and the real heart of the film, which is the stories told by diverse people”, Tonya said and invited families to the festival to watch movies that have family alues but are not necessarily blockbusters.

Shirley Frimpong-Manso, the director of the movie told Showbiz on phone, “The recognition from the Reel Film Festival is big and the team behind Contract is very happy and proud. We urge the media to keep supporting us so that we can bring more honour to Ghana in particular and Africa in general”.

Meanwhile, Contract has been nominated in six categories at the Africa Academy Movie Awards (AMMA) slated for April 20m Bayelsa, Nigeria.

The categories are Best Director- Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Best Actor – Hlomla Dandala, Best Actress – Yvonne Okoro, Best Screenplay – Herty Owusu and Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Best Art Direction – Ken Attoh and Shirley Frimpong-Manso and Best Editing – Nana Akua Manso
