Police in Brong Ahafo Region celebrate WASSA

Sunyani, March 27, GNA – Police Deputy Commissioner (DCOP) Robert Ayaling, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, has commended the police and other security agencies for their hard work and commitment which led to the reduction of crime in the region.

He said due to their efforts criminal cases in the region had reduced by 35 percent in the year 2012 year as compared to the previous years

DCOP Ayalingo said the loyalty of the security service contributed significantly to the incidence free biometric registration which led to the smooth and peaceful elections in 2012.

The Police Regional commander was speaking at the annual celebration of the West Africa Security Services (WASSA) in Sunyani.

He said the most prominent security concern from the police service in 2012 was to provide security on the regions highway and communities and to ensure smooth and safe political and economic activities.

DCOP Ayalingo said compared to the previous year, the region witnessed a decrease in robbery by 32 percent and this was due to the  police engaging in a number of swoops on criminal hideouts, efficient day and night patrols and armed escort of vehicles especially on Techiman Bamong road.

He said the region also recorded a 19 percent reduction in murder, 70 percent reduction in rape and in defilement cases.

The Regional Police Commander expressed concern about the sharp increase of eight percent in road crashes and 47 people receiving various degrees of injuries.

He said the situation was associated it with indiscipline on the part of drivers and other road users, drunk driving, non-observance of road signs and road markings and lack of maintenance of vehicles were some of the causes of accident.

He appealed to the District and Municipal Assemblies to assist the police with fuel and other logistics to supplement their little resource for effective intensification and sustainability of day and night mobile patrol in the district.

DCOP Ayalingo said police buildings in the region are in deplorable conditions and need rehabilitation to ensure police have decent accommodation

He assured the public that the police with partnership with their colleague security services will provide security to the public and appealed to the public to cherish  the duties of the personnel to continue with their efforts to reduce crime this year.

The Regional Police Commander said the police administration will not countenance corrupt practices and unprofessionalism in the course of their duties saying some people have been detailed to work undercover to observe such practices and any personnel found culpable will face the law. GNA
