Guinea Fowls

A Non Governmental organization called the Northern Youth for Peace and Development (NYUPED) has threatened to lock up the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) offices in Tamale if the management fails to account for the money supposedly spent on guinea fowl rearing.

NYUPED which has over the years advocated for enough resources for SADA, implied that such huge sums could not go down the drains at the expense of the suffering masses in the northern regions.

The organization also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to immediately establish a committee of inquiry to investigate the matter.

This threat followed reports that the SADA secretariat spent GHC12 million on a supposed guinea fowl project in some selected communities in the northern regions.

Speaking in an interview, Executive Director for NYUPED, Prince Hardi Adams fumed, “Immediately, President Mahama should set up a committee to investigate the matter or else we will have no option than to go and sack the staff and lock up the SADA offices in Tamale.”

He said Ghanaians deserved to know what the money has been used for which must be backed with documentary evidence.

“Some corrupt people are trying to misuse the huge monies meant for SADA and we will not sit unconcerned and allow them to succeed because we held several press conferences and called for more funds for SADA and that is not what we expected.”

He further called for forensic audit of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority’s expenditure on the projects executed so far.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Hon. Alex Markin challenged government to give detailed account of the amount of money spent on the guinea fowl and tree planting projects embarked on under the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).
