Trade and Industry Minister, Haruna Iddrisu has defended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s knack for huge foreign loans.
The Tamale South MP stated that the Mahama administration will only borrow to invest in the productive sector of the economy and nothing more.
Mr. Iddrisu said this when he took his turn on the debate of the 2013 budget in Parliament.
Citi News’ Parliamentary correspondent, Richard Sky reported that the Minister rose to the defense of the governing party saying, “indeed yes, the government may be contracting loans but these loans are being channeled into the productive sectors of the economy.
According to him, Mr. Iddrisu maintained that “it is unacceptable for anybody to argue that the government is indiscriminately collecting loans left, right and center.”
The Trade Minister is reported to have further mentioned some of the sectors of the economy in which investments will be been include the Agric sector, the Oil sector and the road sector.
