Ho, March 27, GNA -Timothy Mawunu, 37, a farmer at Abutia-Teti in the Ho Municipal Area, was on Monday jailed seven years in hard labour by a Ho Circuit Court for defiling an 11-year- year old class six pupil.

Mawunu who pleaded not guilty said it was the victim who embraced him and tickled his penis.

The prosecution’s case at the court presided over by Mr Justice Richard Koogypwah, a High Court Judge sitting as a Circuit Court Judge was that on November 27, 2011 the victim who was living with the grandparents was sent on an errand by the grandfather at around 1600 hours.

Mawunu, a neighbour, intercepted the victim and also sent her to buy him a sachet of water.

When the victim returned with the sachet of water, Mawunu pulled her into his room, gagged her and forcibly had carnal knowledge of her.

The victim kept the ordeal to herself until December 3, 2011 when her mother who visited Abutia-Teti from her base in Accra for a funeral interrogated her about her awkward gait.

The prosecution said Mawunu realizing that a report had been made to the police went underground but was tracked and arrested.
