Sellas thrills in Black Satellites performances

Ghana boosted their hopes of winning a fourth title at the African Youth Championship after reaching the final with a a performance against Mali which drew praise from coach Sellas Tetteh.

Sellas, who guided Ghana to their last title success in 2009 believes the present generation of the national U-20 side are showing qualities similar to the title-winning side of four years ago.

The Black Satellites secured a final meeting against Egypt on Saturday after defeating Mali 4-2 on penalties as the game which stood at goalless in Oran traveled into extra-time.

“This team pleases me as it is like that of 2009 and we’ll give everything to fulfill our dream as in 2009 in Rwanda,” Sellas Tetteh said after the game on Tuesday.

He however admits that his side faced a tough opposition but was pleased with the determination shown by the Black Satellites.

“It was a tough game, but what I remember is that in the last 13 minutes we showed some grit and determination.

“Yes, Mali played better than us for long periods but we finished strong and the players were tenacious,” said the Ghana U-20 coach.

Ghana – three-time winners (1993, 1999 and 2009) can win their fourth, which will be Sellas Tetteh’s second after guiding the Black Satellites to their last title.
