PTA Constructs GH¢214, 200 School Block …For TASTECH In Sunyani

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Twene Amanfo Senior High and Technical School (TASTECH) in Sunyani has constructed two-storey classroom blocks with offices and stores at the cost of GH¢214, 200 for the school.

It has acquired 12 plots of land to construct staff village for teachers, and also donated a 54-seater Kassbohrer bus to the school.

Mr. Peter Hayford Appiah, Headmaster, inaugurated the classroom block at the 4 th Speech and Prize Giving Day of the school in Sunyani at the weekend.

He acknowledged the collective contribution of the PTA towards improved academic performance among students, especially in the West African Senior High School Examination (WASSCE).

Mr. Appiah explained that the academic output of the school had witnessed a tremendous improvement over the years.

He indicated that by dint of hard work, the school, for the past six years (2005/2012), had chalked resounding successes in the WASSCE, adding with the exception of 2011, when the school recorded 99.8 percent, it scored 100 percent in all the years.

Mr. Appiah said the school’s population had increased from 30 in 1981 to 2,241 in 2013, but expressed concern that infrastructural development was not the best.

He said it was denied the six unit classroom block project which was given to second cycle schools to mitigate the effect of the change over from the four year Senior High School to three year Senior High School system.

Mr. Appiah expressed appreciation to the Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council and the Sunyani Municipal Assembly for their continuous assistance to the school.

He enumerated a number of problems such as inadequate staff accommodation, lack of a hostel facility, and for assistance.

Mr. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, emphasised the need to give technical and vocational education the needed attention, as it helped graduates to acquire employable skills.

He pledged to re-shape access roads in the school, and entreated the students to read their books to pass their examination well.

Mr. Ameyaw-Cheremeh advised the teachers to also redouble their efforts, and help the students to obtain better grades in the WASSCE.
