Nima Muhinmanchi Art presents ‘Imagines Accra’ street art on March 16

NMA Imagine Accra poster Nima Muhinmanchi Art presents ‘Imagines Accra’ street art on March 16What do you envision for your city? On Saturday, 16 March, a group of artists and youth from Nima will paint their vision onto the walls of Club 10 at Kanda Highway with a mural painting event dubbed “Imagine Accra”.

Hosted by the non-profit Nima Muhinmanchi Art (NMA), the project celebrates Ghana’s 56th year of independence.

NMA is a grassroots initiative started by a group of artists in Nima, Accra to empower youth to express themselves and beautify their community. Through a series of mural paintings over the past two years, NMA has re-imagined how the city sees public toilets, parks, school walls, and urban environments.

Saturday’s event will be a full day celebration of painting, music and festivities with youth from Nima and artists from throughout the city. The theme, “Imagine Accra,” captures the energy of a metropolis buzzing with progress, just named by the New York Times as a Top 4 global travel destination, in the country with the fastest growing economy in the world. NMA aims to bring the condition of the streets up to par with the city’s growing international reputation, using arts and culture as a tool for progress.

The Club 10 mural will join two other NMA works along Kanda Highway, at Kawukudi Park and the Village Garden Toilet. Since its founding in 2011, NMA has redefined public space through bright murals bearing positive messages. NMA attracted attention last year with a popular “peace campaign”, including a sold-out arts festival at the Alliance Française and painting of the public toilets at Nima Sallahfest with V.I.P.

All are invited to join NMA’s efforts to revitalize and transform public spaces of Ghana while constructively engaging the youth. Saturday’s event, open to the public and sponsored by Acrilex, promises to be a vibrant day of painting, music, and fun.
