Accra, Mar. 14, GNA – Renowned boxing promoter, Henery Manly-Spain has cites ‘vote buying’ for his inability to win the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) presidency election.

The highly-favoured Manly-Spain of Golden Mike Boxing Promotion fame lost out to Peter Zwennes after polling 35 votes against 56 by the latter at the GBA Annual General Meeting held on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium. The other contender Francis Decland raked in just four votes.

After conceding and congratulating Zwennes in the full glare of delegates, Manly-Spain moments later told GNA Sports that underhand dealings played a vital role in his defeat.

‘Many people were here at 6 am and many things went on. Many hands were exchanged. I was not around and even if was around, I wont do that.

‘There was many ‘under table’ handshakes and delegates were influenced with money. Perhaps, that might have swayed some delegates,’ he fumed.

Though silent on the identity of the contender, Manly-Spain expressed his commitment to the development of the sport.

‘I am in it and am not leaving the game. I have eight boxers and sure of producing a world champion by July.’

Manly-Spain served on the Executive Board of the immediate past GBA.
