Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned all groups working for him to be appointed into government to do so in a respectful manner after one of them presented the president with an ultimatum.
He was reacting to a newspaper publication citing a group led by one Alhaji Lafia which gave the President a week’s ultimatum to appoint Joseph Yammin into government.
The Regional Secretary says giving the president an ultimatum is bad and disrespectful. He says they could rather plead with the President if they are really working in his interest. He says no one should attempt to force the hand of the president.
“Even though I am not against their pushing for me to be appointed because they have seen the work we have done for the party and the competence that we have, I don’t think they have the right to threaten the President. I think the President should be respected,” he said.
The group, according to a report by the Enquirer Newspaper under the heading “Yammin Supporters raise red flags over Deputy Minister Swerve”, threatened to demonstrate if the president refused to appoint Joseph Yammin.
The NDC stalwart, however, says “we should leave the President to decide. If the President sees competence in me and says he can work with me, I will be the happiest person and they will be the happiest people. But if the President decides otherwise, he has the powers. So I am appealing to them, that my appointment or otherwise should not form the basis for their demonstration.”
Joseph Yammin has denied knowing the group or any of its members.
