APPARENTLY to prove critics wrong over the health condition of injured Governor Danbaba Suntai, the Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, has firmed up plans to dispatch the Information Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, to Germany to ascertain the true state of the governor.
Suntai, who was injured in a crash near Yola airport last October, has been on admission in the foreign hospital since then, fuelling speculations that he has been brain damaged and unable to recognize human beings.
Umar, who recently returned from seeing him, was quoted by an online publication as saying that Suntai could not recognize him, a statement he immediately renounced.
Vanguard learnt that the purpose of the visit is to enable the commissioner to engage the German media in a tele-conference with Suntai, who is said to be recuperating from his injury after undergoing several operations. Bello said in a text message to Vanguard, yesterday, that the trip was also meant to put to rest insinuations that the governor had been incapacitated and unable to recognize even persons close to him as a result of the accident.
“The visit would put to rest insinuations in some quarters that the commissioner of information is merely handing out second hand information on Suntai’s health.
The trip is being facilitated by the Acting Governor, Garba Umar, who recently promised to send a team to Germany to give more information on the current health condition of Governor Danbaba Suntai,” Bello explained.
Suntai even had a set of twins born while still undergoing treatment in the German hospital.
Last week, speculations became rife that his personal effects had been removed from the Government House, Jalingo, preparatory to the formal takeover of the administration by the Acting Governor, but the rumour was immediately countered as untrue by the governor.
It was still unclear when the governor would return to his seat if he had recovered from the injuries sustained during the accident.
