Kano State ruling party, People Democratic Party sweeps the state assembly bye election in Gaya and Garko local government areas in the south of the state.
The bye election was conducted on Saturday amidst tight security to forestall violence, though couple of confrontations among party supporters was obvious in the central towns of Garko and Gaya local government areas respectively.
The state of result made available to LEADERSHIP through the public relation officer, INEC Kano, Garba Lawal Muhammad reveals that Dr. Mannir Kambah the returning officer of Gaya local government declares that PDP Candidate scores 42,696, ANPP 2,379 and CPC 970, while in Garko local government, Professor Habu Muhammad Fagge declares that PDP candidate scores 53,895, ANPP 2,168 and CPC 1331.
Alhaji Tafida Tijjani Gaya of PDP was declared winner in Gaya local government and Abba Ibrahim Garko of PDP was also declared winner in Garko local government and they would represent their constituencies at the state assembly.
The election was made possible following the assassination of the two late members representing Gaya and Garko local governments at separate occasions.
The state commissioner of finance of PDP Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Gaya described the vicory as landslide “ANPP is now in death trap and waits its proper burial.”
An emerging political giant in Gaya and the state, Mahmoud Gaya said time has now come for electorates to decide who to vote based on what he did to their community, contrary to the belief that money politics wins minds and guarantees winning election.
Meanwhile, opposition reactions alleged rigging, violence at polling stations, snatching of voting materials and exercise of too much incumbency power.
It was gathered that business activities has resumed and tension has subsided in the two local government areas were the election was held.
