ENUGU — THE All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Enugu State Chapter, yesterday, dismissed as false the claim by Chief Maxi Okwu that he was a member of the party, saying the politician was long expelled and had not been re-admitted into the party.
Okwu, was recently appointed the party’s Interim National Chairman of the party by a faction.
The Chairman of APGA in the state, Chief Okechukwu Nkoloagu, at a briefing in Enugu, said the claim by Okwu, did not hold waters since he had joined the Citizens Popular Party, CPP, after his expulsion and “no longer has any stake in APGA.”
According to the APGA chieftain, since Okwu had not returned to APGA, whatever he did using the name of the party, was “null and void, unconstitutional and of no effect. Maxi Okwu’s name has not appeared in any register at the ward, local government or state level in Enugu State chapter of APGA where I am the chairman since 2005 when he was expelled.
“This purported recall and membership claim by Maxi is quite false.”
Wondering why Okwu should accept the offer of Interim National Chairman of APGA when he knew he was not a member of the party, Nkoloagu said Okwu was expelled in 2005 alongside the former National Chairman, arguing that even when Okorie unsuccessfully challenged his expulsion up to the Supreme Court, Okwu did not appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja that affirmed their expulsion.
He noted that that when Okorie approached the Appeal Court and sought to nullify their expulsion, Okwu at the time asked Okorie to withdraw his (Okwu’s) name from the case as he was reportedly not interested in furthering the case to the Appeal Court.
