N200m Grant Hinders HYPPADEC’s Take Off

More than a month after the Minister of State for Power, Hajiya Zainab Kuchi, announced the take off of the Hydro Power Producing Areas Commission HYPPADEC, the body is yet to begin operations

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY findings revealed that the commission’s take off was being delayed by the ministry’s inability to release the N200 million approved to enhance the take-off.

It was observed that the 32-room office complex donated by the Niger State government to the commission has been without any major change.

Our correspondent further learnt that the office complex had only old furniture while it is still contrary to the minister’s promise that it would swing into full operations immediately.

She spoke late last year when the technical committee comprising secretaries to the state governments of the five benefiting states visited her.

Investigation further revealed that the technical committee of the SSGs from Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Kebbi and Plateau States had been making relentless effort s for the release of the meant for the commission’s take off without success.

When contacted, the special assistant on HYPADDEC, Mallam Aliyu Koste, said that efforts were being made to ensure the release of the funds by the federal government.

He said that hope is not yet lost as the technical committee was on top of the situation.
