Awal Mohammed has made Ghana’s AFCON squad
South African side Maritzburg United are raving about Awal Mohammed’s inclusion in Ghana’s final squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Team of Choice signed the centre-back this season from Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko and he has hugely impressed.
Mohammed, 24, is of the ten debutants in the Black Stars squad for the continent’s flagship event.
Although he has slim chances of playing a match at the tournament, Maritzburg are delighted to see their player make the list.
“Mohammed, who is currently with Ghana in Abu Dhabi, has been a fantastic signing for us, making one of the centre-back berths his own with some sterling performances,” Maritzburg’s commercial manager Younus Kadodia said.
“It’s great that his form has been recognised and we wish him all the best in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations Tournament.
“We believe that he will add great value to his national team for this tournament and for the future.”
Ghana will be based in Port Elizabeth where they play DR Congo on 20 January before engaging Mali and Niger.
