I’m not willing to warm Chelsea bench, says Omeruo

NIGERIAN ace Kenneth Omeruo has told MTNFootball.com that he would rather stay back at Dutch club ADO Den Haag rather than warm the bench at Chelsea.

The 19-year-old defender is on loan to Den Haag from English Premier League outfit Chelsea for the second season running amid talks he could well finally join up with the top London club.

His remarkable progress with the Super Eagles at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations could well fast track his switch to ‘The Blues’.

“There is no rush for me. I just want to keep playing. If I have to move to Chelsea I sit on the bench, I would rather stay back at ADO Den Haag, where I have already established myself to gain more experience,” Omeruo stated.

The central defender or right fullback has already received congratulations from top Chelsea officials for getting game time at the Nations Cup in South Africa.

“They are happy for me. The thinking was that at only 19 it would be a good experience to just be part of the squad to South Africa, but I’m now playing games,” he said.

He started against Zambia on Friday and replaced dismissed Efe Ambrose at right back.

In the summer, the former Nigeria U17 star missed a chance to train with the main Chelsea squad on a playing tour of the United States of America, because he did not have an entry visa.
