Elephants on the right track, says Lamouchi
ALTHOUGH he is not totally satisfied with his team’s performance against Egypt, the national coach of the Elephants has noted a growth in strength within the ranks.
The Ivoirians outclassed the Pharaohs 4-2 on Monday in Abu Dhabi during their Afcon 2013 warm-up match, assuring the essential and building on their confidence, despite a few wobbles which cost them dearly.
“When you beat Egypt four goals to two, it bodes well. Even if the match that we delivered was not the one I had planned, even if I made a lot of changes and even if we have just come through a ten-day warm-up period,” analysed Sabri Lamouchi, who is nevertheless intent on rectifying certain things.
“I am focusing on the positive, while at the same time knowing that there are things to improve on. We have a week left before our first Afcon match and we have things to review,” admitted the former French international.
So the French-Tunisian technician appears relatively calm before the Elephants debut match on 22 January in Rustenburg against Togo.
“I have no concerns about the state of mind that we have developed. I am convinced that we are on the right track,” he assured.
The Ivoirian national team is expected in South Africa today.
