COAS: Army Won’t Waiver in Protecting Nigeria

The Chief of Army Staff,  Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika,Wednesday said the Nigerian Army was poised to protect the nation’s territorial integrity.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko, at Government House, Sokoto,  Ihejirika said the army would not waiver in its constitutional responsibility of protecting the citizens.

He assured the governor that he would continue to do his best to transform the army by ensuring that the resources made available by government were applied towards enhancing the welfare of  troops.

He stated that this would translate to optimal performance of the various units of the force.
The COAS told the governor that he was in Sokoto on a tour of military formations in order to see the living conditions of the soldiers.

He stated that during the visit, some buildings rehabilitated at the 1 (One) Brigade  barracks to uplift the welfare of soldiers would be inaugurated.

In a remark, Wamakko lauded the army for its role in keeping the nation united in spite of the challenges that have bedeviled the country.

He acknowledged the commitment and sacrifice of the military towards ensuring peace and unity in the country.

Wamakko maintained that such efforts by the Nigerian Army contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of the country.

“We must commend Nigerian Army for its role in keeping the country one. This onerous act is moving the nation towards development,” he said.
He also acknowledged the roles played by the Nigerian Army in peacekeeping keeping missions across the globe.


Wamakko stated that leaders should have courage and never to be seen as defeated.


“We should, as leaders, have courage and not be seen as defeated in spite of the challenges bedeviling us.”
