Asamoah Insists He Is Comfortable At Ghana’s Left-back Position

Kwadwo Asamoah says he has no problems playing at left back despite it not being his normal position.

The Juventus midfielder is being used in the odd position as coach Akwasi Appiah tinkers with his team ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old put in a not too assured performance in defence for Ghana in the comprehensive 3-0 friendly win over Egypt on Thursday.

He has again been named in the left-back position for Sunday’s warm up game against Tunisia.

Ghana has been searching for a player who will play the left-back position effectively for years and coach Appiah believes Asamoah is the one to end this long search.

The ex Udinese man however says he has no problems playing at the rear as the coach so wishes.

“Although it is not my normal position I play at Juve but I am prepared to play wherever the coach wants me to,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

“I will avail myself to the tactics of the coach and do my best anywhere the coach sees fit for me to play.

“It all depends on the coach, if he feels playing me at the back will help the team then so be it.

“I have been tried in midfield, I have played behind the strikers and the like so I have options but it all depends on the coach.”

Many believe getting the best out of Asamoah hold they key to Ghana’s chances to winning the Nations Cup in South Africa.

The talented midfielder only really came alive for the Black Stars at the 2010 Nations Cup but has since struggled to hit the very high standards he set in Angola.
