90 killed in Brazil nightclub fire

RIO DE JANEIRO (AFP) – The death toll from a nightclub fire in southern Brazil climbed to at least 90 early Sunday as firefighters searched the charred remains of the establishment, local media reported.

Santa Maria fire chief Guido de Melo said the final toll was still unclear. “There was panic after the fire started and many revelers got trampled,” he is quoted as saying by Estadao newspaper.
