4,500 Mega Watts Of Electricity Generated In Nigeria – Sambo
Vice President Namadi Sambo said yesterday that the federal government has achieved power generation in excess of 4,500MW, just as he commended the Board of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), operators of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) for the appreciable improvement.
Speaking at the 25th meeting of the board chaired by him, Sambo confirmed the June 2013 deadline for distribution companies to finish their work while transmission companies will terminate their contracts by December 2013.
Already, in order to effectively manage the transmission of electricity, the board said 500 engineers had been approved to be trained for that purpose.
The board also noted that there was substantial gas available though still not enough, adding that NNPC and Shell have given assurance about the supply of the product.
Sambo urged member governors of the board to send observers to monitor improvement on the work by the companies as this will also make them to speed up to meet the planned time schedule.
Approval was given to the budget presented by the NDPHC as well as settlement of way leave and other prayers presented to the board.
Presenting the status report, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Mr. James Olotu, said security and community issues still persist in some zones as well as way leave problems. He stated that work has been completed in many other stations.
On Alaoji station, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State reported that 10 hectares of land had been acquired for staff quarters.
