HotSports squash tourney gets underway

Intense squash action commenced on Thursday at the Lagos Country Club squash section where the annual HotSports Ladder Challenge is holding.

Declaring the 5th edition of the championship open, Sports Secretary of the Lagos Country Club Tony Da-Silva lauded HotSports for sustaining the sponsorship of what has become the foremost tournament in the club. He urged the participants to imbibe the spirit of competition.

The CEO of HotSports, Taye Ige, explained that the competition which was conceived to promote the game of squash and also engender bonding among members is one of the platforms the organization uses to reach out to its environment and give back to sports. He said it would continue to be nurtured and sponsored by HotSports.

“This tournament affords us the opportunity to give something back to sports, an area in which we have operated for over one and half decades. I assure you that we will continue to be part of this event,” Ige said.

Ige also paid glowing tributes to sponsors of other tournaments in the section for being part of the effort to promote the game and increase its following. This effort, he maintained, is paying off as a result of the interest the game is generating.

Vice Chairman of the Squash Section of the club, Demola Olusunmade, also commended HotSports for extending hand of fellowship to the section and also believing in the game of squash. He said the officiating of the games would be standard, while the American scoring system would be used.
