Leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Okyere-Darko says the decision by the party to boycott vetting of ministerial nominees by President Mahama, is purposely based on pushing political points, rather than logic.

The party’s resolution has been met with serious disapproval by interest groups, notably, the Ghana Bar Association and a section of the Clergy, who are urging the NPP to rescind its decision.

A founding member of the NPP, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby, also issued a release condemning the move while describing it “illogical and nonsensical”.

However, contributing via text message to a discussion on News File on Joy FM and the Joy News channel on Multi TV, Saturday, on the subject, Gabby seemed to have cleared the hullabaloo over whether the move was logical and sensible.

Mr. Asare Ochere-Darko said the party is right to use all legitimate political means to deny President Mahama, the political comfort.

Gabby’s text to Samson Lardi Ayenini, host of the programme, read: “I’m listening to the voices against NPP’s boycott of Parliamentary vetting and the difficulty is that, they are arguing on logic; but the NPP action is not about what is logical but what is political.

“The fact that the boycott is news drums home the political point that the NPP wants to push; that these are not really normal political times. The party [NPP] is right to use all legitimate political means to deny the President’s residence within his zone of political comfort.

“That, is the message people must understand; after all, we saw the kind of quality that was on display at the two vetting sittings,” he concluded.
