NPP Is Afraid Of Losing Akatsi South & Buem Elections

Managing Editor of the defunct Gye Nyame Concord newspaper, Alfred Ogbamey says the New Patriotic Party(NPP) does not want to contest in the upcoming by-election because they are afraid of losing.

According to him, the NPP is aware that the constituencies where the by-elections are taking place are the strong hold of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) and that is the true reason why they don’t want to contest.

The National Executive Committee of the NPP a few days ago decided that they will not contest the upcoming by-elections in the Volta Region: Akatsi South and Buem constituencies.

The move according to them concerns the nature of the petition challenging the 2012 presidential elections submitted to the Supreme Court, which outlines evidence that, at least, 1 in 8 votes declared by the Electoral Commission in the December election was invalid.

However, speaking as a panelist on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ programme with host Tweneboa Kodua (TK), Alfred Ogbamey said the NPP should not think that Ghanaians are so naïve to swallow their claims hook, line and sinker.

“If you tell me you are not going to take part in the Buem election because Electoral Commission were those who organized the election: why, are we that naïve? The only reason why they are not going is because they know they will lose when they contest. If the by-election was in their strong holds do you think they would say that they would not contest? As for me I would not believe it. It is quite clear they would have lost. It is in the Volta Region”, he said.

He however, added that it was a wise decision for the NPP because if they had contested, they would have wasted resources since their candidate will not win.

“Look at your chance of winning before you go and waste your time and resources. It is a wise decision not to go but the excuse being given with all due respect defies common sense”, he added.
