The Ghana FA will not launch an appeal against the yellow card of Muabrak Wakaso in the 1-0 win over Mali.

The 22-year-old was booked for lifting his jersey to display an inscription on his inner shirt during his goal celebration.

The booking rules the Espanyol player out of Ghana’s final group game against Niger on Monday.

FIFA rules do not take kindly to the display of controversial inscriptions by players during matches – meaning Wakaso risks further punishment for his conduct.

Some people have however argued the message on Wakaso’s inner shirt which read: ‘Allah is Great’ is not offensive and thus did not deserve to be booked for displaying it.

The Ghana FA nevertheless say it will not appeal the decision to book the hard tackler.

“No (answering to whether an appeal will be lodged), we respect the referee’s decision so we are not going to appeal,” leader of the Ghana FA delegation at the Nations Cup Felix Ansong said.

This means if no further punishment is incurred Wakaso will be eligible to play for Ghana at the quarter final stag if the Black Stars qualify.
