Popular opinion among the older folk in Ghana tells interesting tales about how certain retired footballers took Ghana’s league by storm and a member of the council of patrons of Accra Hearts of Oak, Dr. Nyayo Tamakloe, is no different.

Nyaho has branded Ghana’s Glo Premier League as devoid of ‘intelligent’ players, a condition he believes, has adversely affected the excitement of the league.

Nyaho, who doubles as a board member of the club was discussing a range of issues with Kessben FM including Hearts of Oak’s current performance and Ghana’s chances of annexing the trophy at the AFCON tournament in South Africa.

Hearts are currently lying 14th on the 16-team log, but Nyaho believes the Phobians’ demise is a national problem.

“We are suffering from the very problem every club is facing now; and that is the dearth of ‘intelligent’ players,” he said.

“I am using the term “intelligent’ advisedly here but the fact remains that players like the Osei Kofis, Abedi Peles, Ablade Kumah’s, the Shamo Quayes and Joe Debrahs who could turn a game on its head single-handedly, are no more present in Ghana’s league is no more exciting as a result.

“Kotoko may be ahead of us in the league table but just look at how they have struggled before picking up on the league table. But I am assuring our numerous fans that they will see a different Hearts of Oak which will overtake Asante Kotoko in the 2nd round.”

He also had his take on the chances of the Black Stars, especially on the absence of Dede Ayew.

“Kwesi Appiah has stamped his authority on the team well and I am happy with that,” he expressed. “If he thinks Dede Ayew and Sulley Muntari are injured and can’t be included, we should understand and give him a chance to take his own decisions”.
