“The Court Is Not A Place For Carnival”

A member of the legal team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Abraham Amaliba has condemned the action of his party members at the premises of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Some members of the NDC on Wednesday wore party T-shirts, held canes and threatened to beat up anybody who they suspect to belong to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to the issue on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, with host Tweneboa Kodua (T.K), Mr. Amaliba said both political parties: NPP and NDC, should be able to restrain their supporters not to go to the court premises since their presence will not affect the verdict of the case.

“The court is not a place for Carnival; the court is not a place for jamboree: both political parties should tell their followers to stay away … All acts of violence should be condemned” he said.

Meanwhile, Director of operations at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Frank Cofie, says they will deal ruthlessly with anyone who will come to the court premises to cause confusion.

“We will try as much as possible to keep them at base but it is incumbent for the various political parties to also talk to their supporters and advise them not to come there. What are they coming there to do? Their presence will not change the verdict. It is the fact of the case in court. We plead with them to talk to their supporters but if they still insist that they will come there to make noise, we will deal with them accordingly… we will name and shame anyone who will interferes with our attempt to arrest any party supporter who will come to make noise or cause mayhem,” he added.
