Two women are in the Sakumono Police cells for allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old girl with the intention of trafficking her to Sierra Leone.

Fanta Tejan (pictured), a 43-year-old Sierra Leonean and Esther Nartey, a 28-year-old Ghanaian, both petty traders, reportedly kidnapped the girl (name withheld) and kept her for four days in a room.

Mr Ruben Gugah, Sakumono District Police Crime Officer, briefed DAILY GUIDE that somewhere in December 2012 at about 7:30am, a certain Rebecca Baah sent the younger sister of the victim to school and left the victim in the house.

The suspects, noticing the absence of Rebecca, their colleague trader, quickly went to the house and abducted the child and sent her to their house.

The suspects fed and bathed the child in their room, convincing her to be calm because she would be taken to Sierra Leone to attend an international school to become a responsible person in life.

A child of the Sierra Leonean suspect was said to have spilled the beans when he alerted the mother of the victim about the fact that her abducted child was in his mother’s room for four days.

“A child of the Sierra Leonean suspect disclosed to Rebecca that the victim is in their room for days and had been bathing in the room,” DSP Gugah noted.

The suspects were alarmed when they heard that Rebecca had reported the case to the police and quickly sent the girl to a certain security man to send her to the police station.

The security man obliged and the victim was handed over to the Sakumono police and later released to Rebecca.

According to the Crime Officer, upon interrogation, the victim disclosed that she had been in the house of Fanta Tejan for four days.

He noted that on the January 1, 2013 Rebecca reported the case to the police and the suspects were later arrested.

The suspects would be arraigned on a charge of child stealing after investigations.
