Three arrested for vandalising Ogun water facilities

Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested three suspects at Itoku in Abeokuta South Local Government Area for allegedly vandalising the state’s water corporation equipment.

Abubakar Kamara (38); Abubakar Hussain (25) and Akeem Balogun (41), were arrested after they had sold two 250mm Sluice Valves with one detachable joint belonging to the water corporation.

The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Kareem Olanrewaju, said the corps arrested the suspects following a tip off.

Olanrewaju said Kamara, a site labourer with a construction company in the state, admitted selling the equipment for N5,000 to Hussain.

According to him, Kamara claimed that he was not aware that the equipment belonged to the water corporation.

The NSCDC spokesman said Hussain confessed that he bought the equipment from Kamara, while Balogun claimed he only assisted the suspects to convey the material with his truck.

Olanrewaju, who said the action of the suspects could cause water shortage in the city, added that investigations would prove their culpability or otherwise.

An engineer with the water corporation, who pleaded anonymity, said the sluice valve was not a scrap.

He said, “The equipment belongs to the water cooperation and it is still functioning.”
