President John Mahama
The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Okaikoi North Constituency, Mr. Andrew Nii Okakoi, has urged Ghanaians to have faith in the ability of President John Dramani Mahama to deliver to meet their aspirations.
Mr. Okaikoi described President Mahama as an action and results-oriented person who has a strong passion for the socio-economic development of the country, stressing: “If he can use three months to market himself to win an election against someone who has campaigned for almost four years now, then we must see the calibre of person that President John Mahama is.”
The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate was speaking to the media in Accra yesterday.
He said: “Campaigning for the presidency is essentially a marketing process, in which candidates present themselves as products, differentiate themselves from other products and make proposals on how they will perform if they get the job. This is why campaign promises are such an important part of our process and President Mahama was smart and courageous in making promises which are realistic. “
He described President Mahama as a “conciliator” who will change the face of Ghana politics.
“Mahama is not petty, arrogant or selfish… he is an easy going and understandable person, he does not care which political party or tribe one comes from, if you are competent and can deliver, he will not reject you,” he said.
Mr. Okaikoi who is also the chairman of the Ghana National Council on People with Disability (GNPD) however said, it’s about time the sitting President adopt the 1960’s African leaders’ approach where they tasked their appointees to deliver or risked being sacked.
He noted that the late President Kwame Nkrumah in the early 60’s adopted this approach by tasking all his appointees to deliver on a time-line to pacify the supporters and was able to transform the country into an enviable one.
He commended the President for the big brother approach he has taken since he assumed office in dealing with all party advocates and loyalists.
He said this the time for the NDC to prove to all – supporters and non-supporters – that it is the only party that has the ordinary man at heart by coming out with policies that will serve the poor.
