Daniel Opare has returned to action for Standard Liege

Ghana defender Daniel Opare stepped up his recovery to full fitness after playing the first half of a winter pre-season friendly for Standard Liege.

The 21-year-old damaged a fifth metatarsal in his right foot during training in October last year ahead of their league match against Mons Tondreau.

He played in the 3-1 defeat to German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg at their winter pre-season base in Turkey.

Opare has battled injuries since moving to Europe in 2008, a year after bursting on the scene at the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup in Korea.

He signed for Real Madrid but injuries affected his first team chances and then moved to Belgium two seasons.
