Lagos MTN Street Soccer champion arrives South Africa
THE Lagos State government in conjunction with MTN Nigeria, the sponsors of the Lagos MTN Street Soccer Championship have fulfilled the promise made to the 1st runner up team, Ajao Jimoh Street of touring South Africa with the arrival of the team and officials at Oliver Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg on Tuesday.
The team immediately proceeded to have breakfast before being conveyed to Brown Sugar Backpackers Lodge, Randburg, Johannesburg to freshen up and have lunch. The Lodge is located in a clean, safe and secure environment and it is within the environ of the Sandton Sports Club where the team will receive their trainings and play some matches.
The players expressed joy and thanked the Lagos State government and MTN Nigeria for fulfilling the promise made at the beginning of the 5th Season of the Lagos MTN Street Soccer Championship in 2012 of training tour of South Africa by the 1st runner up of the season.
The team is to enjoy trainings in skills, drills, fitness, attacking, midfield and defending techniques, tactical soccer and functional drills amongst others while in South Africa. The team would also pass through a mentoring programme from a sports developer at Sandton Sports Club.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Lagos State, Wahid Enitan Oshodi, speaking to the team after landing at OR Tambo International Airport on phone, implored the players to be good ambassadors of Lagos State and Nigeria. He enjoined them to imbibe the skills and training so as to further their careers or passion in football.
The Ajao Jimoh Street team later visited the Soccer City Stadium, Soweto Township and the Orlando Pirates Stadium before returning to its Lodge.
The officials led by Olumide Filade has Alhaji Tijani Azeez and Dotun Coker (LOC members) and Chucks Obi, a representative of MTN Nigeria and the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, Hon. Ajao Jimoh.
