Taxi Driver Kills Five Jubilant NDC Supporters

The dream of a group of jubilant supporters and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to celebrate the party’s triumph at the just ended election were dashed when a taxi driver rammed his vehicle into them killing five.

The incident which occurred at Adjiriganor, block factory near Trassaco Valley estates in Accra, has left 13 others in critical condition at the Legon, Police hospitals, and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital respectively.

The Legon District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Frank Anning who confirmed the incident, said that, the driver, John Attu, who was driving a Diawoo taxi cab with registration number GT 1170-10 at about 12 am run into the jubilant supporters killing one on spot.

He said the driver who is being held by the police to assist in investigations, attributed the accident to brake failure.

“We are making arrangements to sent the vehicle to the testing unit of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to ascertain the veracity of the driver’s claim’, Chief Anning said.

The Member of Parliament elect for the Adentan Constituency, Nii Ashie Moore who visited the injured at the hospital described the incident as unfortunate.

He said that while some of the injured persons have been treated and discharged, surgical operations were being carried out on three others who were referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital from the Legon hospital.
