Somalia: Security Operations Underway in Beledweyne

Residents in the city of Beledweyne in central say that a joint security by Somali and Djibouti forces who are part of African Union mission in Somalia, is underway in that city today.

The security sweep is aimed at removing any security hurdles that may exist in the city as residents in Beledweyne, who spoke to Shabelle, say.

Eyewitnesses say that the joint security operations are underway in the neighbourhoods of Hawa Tako and Kooshin where Somali forces and their allies from Amisom are seen moving around and carrying out search operations.

Shabelle tried to contact Somali military officals and those of Amsiom in the province but the network couldn’t get them by phone.

There was a security meeting in Beledweyne which was attended by the local people including politicians, religious leaders and intellectuals from the region and the attendees of that meeting discussed how best the security of the region can be improved with a help from African Union forces stationed there.
