Boye Hands Ghana Boost With Early Injury Return

Boye hands Ghana boost with early injury return

John Boye makes early injury return to boost Ghana

Ghana defender John Boye will recover in time before the start of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The centre-back suffered a thigh injury while playing for Rennes in the French Ligue 1 last week.

It was initially feared that the injury could keep him out for two months which could have ruled him out of the tournament which starts in six weeks’ time.

But Rennes coach Frederic Antonetti has revealed that even though he doesn’t expect Boye to play for them before the winter break he has a chance of playing in their last game of the year on 22 December.

“The year is basically over for him (John Boye). There is a tiny chance he could be back for the last game of the year against Ajaccio, on the 22nd of December, but it’s very slim,” Antonetti said.

This means Boye will be fit in time for the Black Stars camping in Abu Dhabi which opens on 5 January.

The defender is one of the key players for Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah for the 19 January to 10 February tournament.

Ghana’s other two central defenders also suffered injuries recently and they are only just recovering.

Isaac Vorsah and Jonathan Mensah are back in action for their clubs in Europe after suffering injuries last month.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group B where they will face DR Congo, Mali and Niger.
