Egypt: Constitutional Court Suspends Sessions Indefinitely

The Supreme Constitutional Court decided on Sunday 2/12/2012 to suspend its sessions indefinitely. The suspension decision was made on the backdrop of a gathering of a large number of demonstrators in front of the court prohibiting access of the majority of judges to the court for looking into the cases of the unconstitutionality of the Shura Council law and the election of the constitution-drafting Constituent Assembly.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered in front of the Constitutional Court and shut down the roads leading to it, chanting slogans in support of the recent constitutional declaration and revoking the constitutional court.
