His time on The X Factor may be well and truly over, but Rylan Clark’s showbiz career has now stepped up a notch.

The wannabe singer made his TV presenting debut on ITV1’s Daybreak on Monday morning.

And he managed to successfully give Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones the latest showbiz news in place of usual entertainments host Richard Arnold, who is taking a break for a week following his stint on Strictly Come Dancing.

Rylan was, of course, coiffed to perfection for his debut as he gave a run down of the latest showbiz news – as well as being joined on the sofa by his former X Factor pals Union J.

Sitting pretty in front of Lorraine and Aled, Rylan looked comfortable as he announced some of the latest gossip, while giving his opinion on stories such as One Direction’s Harry Styles being pictured with Taylor Swift.

Writing on Twitter ahead of his first appearance, Rylan commented: ‘Up bright and early for @Daybreak this morning….. My guess is ill burn out by Wednesday haha x.’

The 23-year-old went for a casual look for the debut, wearing a plain black V-neck T-shirt with jeans.

But he was, of course, preened to perfection knowing all eyes would be on him during his slot.

After introducing VTs about I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, Rylan was then joined by Union J, who left the competition this weekend.

He told the cameras: ‘Saturday night James Arthur – what a performance! But unfortunately someone had to leave and it was my four little brothers Union J.’

Rylan then added as they sat next to him: ‘I’ve got to say these boys are the nicest boys.’

And Rylan’s debut was met with varied reactions from fans of the show on Twitter.

One wrote: ‘So nice to see @RylanClark on #daybreak you’re career is kicking off already!!! Love you Rylan!!’

Entertained: He seemed to gel well with the usual presenters as he makes a career for himself post X Factor

Time for work: Rylan was seen arriving at the ITV studios early on Monday morning ready for work

Another added: ‘Rylan just fab on daybreak, so natural just as if you’ve been doing that for years……jx.’

But some fans were left less than impressed at seeing him stand in as the entertainment editor.

One complained: ‘The only talent Rylan has is annoying everyone as soon as he speaks. #notalent #getoffmytv,’ while another wrote: ‘Rylan is going to do my head in on daybreak this week atleast it’s my motivation to drag myself up #notamorningperson.’

While he was joined by the Union J boys, they admitted they were ‘relieved’ to be out of The X Factor.

The boy band – who are made up of Jaymi Hensley, JJ Hamblett, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert – are ‘gutted’ to have missed out on a place in the grand final of the competition on Sunday, but they are glad to have escaped the ‘pressure’ which came with starring on the ITV1 talent show.

Josh told Bang Showbiz: ‘We’re obviously gutted that we’re not in the final but a little bit relieved because we now don’t have the pressure. Each week that goes on there is more and more pressure.

‘But we’re wishing the other three the best of luck, it’s been the best experience of our lives and it’s going to change our lives.’

Union J were booted out of the competition on Sunday after receiving the least amount of public votes, but the group are now hoping to overtake The Wanted and compete with One Direction – who finished third on ‘The X Factor’ in 2010 – in the charts.

They added: ‘We’ve got every belief in ourselves from how far we’ve come from week one and from not getting through boot camp. I think we’ve got every reason and every possibility to be as successful as the guys like One Direction and JLS who have come out of the show.

‘It’s going to be really tough, it’s going to be massive for us to do it. But we’d like to think there is a gap in the market for another group.

‘Whenever there have been successful winners there has always been a rival boy band who have competed for that top spot. Take That and East 17, Boyzone and Westlife, so hopefully it will be One Direction and Union J. That’s the plan anyway. But they are great lads as well.”

Jahmene Douglas, James Arthur and Christopher Maloney will compete in ‘The X Factor’ final on Sunday.
