No blackout from Wednesday until election results are declared - VRA

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has assured the public there will be no power cuts from Wednesday, December 5, 2012 until election results are declared.

The opposition New Patriotic Party is already raising red flags over what it says are plots to rig the December 7 elections that include a nationwide power outage.

But the VRA, the generator and supplier of electricity in Ghana, has announced that there will be no power outages during the election period.

Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni, who was at the meeting, reported that the VRA has a reserve of 150 megawatts and will rely on that for a stable power supply.

In addition, the Authority will also cut down electricity supplies to neighbouring Togo in order to shore up supplies for the period during election.

The VRA has also entered into talks with the Ivory Coast to request an extra a supply of extra power for Ghana. A delegation is in currently in the country discussing the matter.
