Accra, Dec.3, GNA – Two coaches from Manchester United Football Club, England, have visited the Glo Soccer Academy Home in Nigeria as well as the head quarters of the telecommunications company.
The coaches; Adam Temple and Andrew Smith, Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Grade A coaches arrived in Nigeria, last week to beef up the technical team handling young West African players at the Glo Soccer Academy. Gladys O. Talabi, Executive Director, in charge of Legal Affairs at Globacom,
described the Glo Soccer Academy as an effective tool for enriching and developing the game of football across West Africa.
She said, the Glo Soccer Academy as the “first among equals,” in terms of its quality and coverage, is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aimed at unearthing and developing football talents in West Africa.
“The fact that the Academy has been so well received in Nigeria, Ghana and the Benin Republic and will spur Globacom on to do more in developing the game in the region”. Talabi said. She also paid glowing tribute to the relationship between Globacom and Manchester United and described it as mutually beneficial, adding that the company looks forward to expanding the scope of the relationship to offer more benefits not only to Globacom, but to its subscribers across Africa.
Smith, described their stay at the Academy as a wonderful experience and commended the coaches for their good judgements during the screening and selection of young talents.
He said, the Academy is composed of very good and focused players with positive attitudes and great potentials adding that it has the potential of churning out a large number of world class footballers in very near future.
Temple, on his part, also described the atmosphere at the camp as very exciting, adding that working with the young talents in the Academy has been a great experience.
“The academy is a fantastic programme. It is definitely a good start for the boys of their age. The environment is serene and good for learning. It will boost the morale of the boys on and off the pitch.” Temple noted.
